How To Make Radioactive Isotopes Visible And Measurable If They Are In Water, Via A Simple Soaking Method

Water is an efficient blocker of radiation, which makes detecting radiation in water extremely difficult. This article outlines a simple, low tech method of concentrating existing radioactive isotopes in water into a seed, which can then be measured with a standard food radiation detection machine, and/or possibly a very sensitive pancake style radiation detector.

Because water is an efficient absorber and blocker of radiation, it is almost impossible to test water itself for radiation. Plutonium is especially hard to test for and it is an alpha radiation emitter, which makes it much harder to detect.

Now you can test water for radiation by using water in the way shown in the video above. Start with some dry seeds such as soybeans and allow them to soak up the water. 

Change the water every 15 minutes for up to several hours. Drain the water and then test the soybeans for radiation with a pancake style radiation detector. The best way is to test the beans inside a specific food radiation detector machine, inside of a lead shielded container.

Allow the food to dry out and test again. This will make radiation in the water visible and detectable on a pancake style radiation detector, if there is enough fallout in the water.
