170 Million Americans are Drinking Radioactive Water. This Interactive Map Shows If You Are, Too | SOMEONE SOMEWHERE
Everyone needs water to survive. But in the United States of America, more than 170 million people are drinking radioactive water, according to a new study by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). The consumption of radioactive elements may increase the risk of cancer, which is why this revelation is so concerning. Fortunately, a new interactive map reveals the locations the radioactive water has been found. This may enable citizens to find an alternate source of aqua until the public health crisis is fixed.

For its investigation, the EWG analyzed nearly 50,000 public water systems in all 50 US states. The group found that the water supply consumed by 170 million Americans contain radioactive elements. In 27 states, water supplies exceeded the EPA’s legal limits. Consumption of radioactive elements is linked with an elevated risk of cancer, as well as harm to fetal growth and brain development.

It costs money to remove radioactive tritium from contaminated water emitted by nuclear plants through their ordinary operation. Nuclear accidents also cause large amounts of radioactive tritium to be created and released into the drinking water supplies of US cities and towns.

The nuclear industry claims that it is either too expensive or that they cannot 'find' a method to remove radioactive tritium from liquid emissions coming from their nuclear facilities.

AND we KNOW for CERTAIN the filtration devices TEPCO are using are UNABLE to remove all the radioactive elements. By the way, where are they putting those filters they "remove" radioactive elements with? Hmm, maybe into the Japanese WIPP depository nobody will accept into their communities?

Here is what was said:
The International Atomic Energy Agency has advised Japan's government and the operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to work out plans to treat radioactive wastewater from a long-term view.

The UN agency suggested the plans would include discharging treated wastewater into the sea.

An IAEA team of experts has ended 9 days of checking Japan's efforts to decommission the crippled plant. The team visited the site and interviewed officials of the government and the operator, TEPCO.
At a news conference on Tuesday, team leader Juan Carlos Lentijo cited as future challenges accumulating wastewater at the plant and radioactive waste to be generated during the decommissioning process.

Lentijo said the water contains radioactive tritium, which cannot be removed by filtering devices. He said more tanks will be needed to store such water but that there will be a shortage of space for them.
He noted that the government and the operator should have a long-term view to carry out decommissioning work safely and without delay. He advised them to consider options including discharging filtered water into the sea.

He also urged the Japanese side to come up with a plan to control a large amount of radioactive waste to be generated in the decommissioning process.

The IAEA team is to publish its final report by the end of March. The government plans to reflect the report in future decommissioning and revising of a timetable for the work.

AMOUNTS OF RADIOACTIVE HEAVY METAL POISONS LARGER THAN DRINKING WATER STANDARDS ALLOW ARE DUMPED REGULARLY 


Since 1940, tritium in wastewaters has been discharged at various U. S. DOE sites at concentrations greater than the drinking water MCL. Because an economical separation technology was not developed for removal of tritium from wastewaters, isolation, dilution, and hold up time have been the means of partial mitigation in the past. To comply with the MCL requirement, the DOE is currently seeking an economically acceptable method for removal of tritium from wastewaters. 

METHOD 1: TRITIUM REMOVAL FROM WATER VIA MEMBRANE SEPARATION


Tritium Removal by Membrane Separation 
A 13-stage recycling cascade polyphosphazene membrane process was designed to separate tritium from water. The waste water stream is fed to the separation process at a flowrate of I gallon per minute and has an activity of 240,000 pCi/L (9.35e-11 g/min). This is twelve times the permissible activity level, as specified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The membrane separation process is designed to remove 95.00% of the tritium into the permeate, with 99.90% of the flow as EPA approved clean water (483,626 gal/yr).

METHOD 2:  REMOVE TRITIUM FROM WATER VIA FREEZING METHOD


The method involved is the simplest of methods and relies on the fact that tritiated water freezes at a different temperature than that of light water, i.e. the melting point of the tritiated water is higher than light water by 4.49 degrees Celsius.....A mixture of tritiated water and common water is deposited into open top end (30) and the tritiated water, because it freezes at atemperature of 4.49 degrees Celsius, adheres to the walls (20) as gravity pulls the tritiated water down through collection chamber (10). The common water, however, because it freezes at 0 degrees Celsius, does not adhere to the walls (20)

According to the above, does that not mean that tritium water freezes BEFORE and faster than regular water does? Doesn't it mean that tritium ice melts LAST, AFTER regular ice melts?

METHOD 3: KURION ANNOUNCES MDS METHOD OF REMOVING TRITIUM FROM WATER


Kurion, Inc., an innovator in nuclear and hazardous waste management, announced a breakthrough in the treatment of the historically difficult to capture isotope with the introduction of its patent-pending Modular Detritiation System™ (MDS™) to decontaminate tritiated water.

METHOD 4: SEPARATION OF TRITIUM FROM WASTEWATER

A proprietary tritium loading bed developed by Molecular Separations, Inc. (MSI) has been shown to selectively load tritiated water as waters of hydration at near ambient temperatures. Tests conducted with a 126 µCi tritium/liter water standard mixture showed reductions to 25 µCi/L utilizing two, 2-meter long columns in series.

JAPAN ANNOUNCES 10 MILLION DOLLAR GRANT FOR DEMONSTRATION PROJECT TO REMOVE TRITIUM


Japanese grant for tritium removal technology
The demonstration projects announced by METI earlier in the year must both verify the tritium separation technology and also to assess the construction and operating costs for full-scale implementation of the technology at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. The technology must be capable of removing tritium from water with concentrations of 0.6 and 4.2 million bequerels per litre and to be expandable to process more than 400 cubic metres per day.

There are plenty of solutions for removing tritium from water. The DOE has offered Japan a way to do it, but it seems Japan does not want it. Why not?

RUSSIANS HAVE METHOD TO REMOVE TRITIUM FROM WATER
