The rise of President Donald Trump has brought with it a rise in Americans’ awareness of a psychological phenomenon called the Dunning-Kruger effect — when a person’s incompetence breeds boastful hubris rather than humility.

It’s not a disease, syndrome or mental illness; it is present in everybody to some extent, and it’s been around as long as human cognition, though only recently has it been studied and documented in social psychology.

In their 1999 paper, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, David Dunning and Justin Kruger put data to what has been known by philosophers since Socrates, who supposedly said something along the lines of “the only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing.” Charles Darwin followed that up in 1871 with “ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.”

Put simply, incompetent people think they know more than they really do, and they tend to be more boastful about it.

This effect may help explain why certain Trump supporters seem to be so easily tricked into believing proven falsehoods when the President delivers what have become known as “alternative facts,” often using language designed to activate partisan identities. Because they lack knowledge but are confident that they do not, they may be less likely than others to actually fact-check the claims that the President makes.

This speculation is supported by evidence from empirical studies. In 2016, an experiment found that 45 percent of Republicans believed that the Affordable Care Act included “death panels,” and a 2015 study similarly found that 54 percent of Republican primary voters believed then-president Barack Obama to be a Muslim.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is particularly worrisome when considering issues that pose existential threats, like global warming. A 2017 study conducted at the University of New Hampshire, for instance, found that only 25 percent of self-described Trump supporters believed that human activities contribute to climate change—though 97 percent of scientists who study climate change agree that they do.

This quirky cognitive bias could potentially be making it easier for Donald Trump to say unchallenged falsehoods to his more uneducated followers. In some cases, not only are these individuals uninformed, they are unlikely to ever try to become more informed on their own. In their minds, they have nothing new to learn.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Those who have the slightest bit of experience think they know it all. That’s the peak at upper left. Then, with increasing experience, people realize how little they do know, how modest their skills are. Perceptions reach a minimum (center of chart), then slant upward again. Those at the level of genius recognize their talent, though tend to lack the supreme confidence of the ignoramus.

The chart is almost a emoticon: a smile turned smirk.

It was the local stations that first discovered, late in the 1960s, that news could make money– lots of money. By the end of the ’70s, news was frequently producing 60 percent of a station’s profits. With numbers like that, news was much “too important” to leave to journalists, and a heavily entertainment-oriented form of programming began to evolve. Often it was contrasted directly with the network news. ‘Feel like you’re getting a bad deal from poker-faced TV news reporters?” asked San Francisco’s KGO in one ad, “Then let the Channel 7 Gang deal you in. They’re not afraid to be friendly.”

Competitive pressures began to impinge on network news in a serious way in the late l970s. In 1976 ABC began a successful drive to make its news division competitive with CBS and NBC. Its successful move into news was followed by the growth of cable, which began to erode the networks’ audience share. As outlined more fully elsewhere in this issue, this new source of competition, combined with other economic conditions, put a significant squeeze on network profits that has since come home to the news divisions in the form of an unprecedented concern with the bottom line.

In Washington, meanwhile, the FCC was dismantling most of the regulatory framework that had been imposed on the television industry since its beginnings, especially the obligation vague, to be sure– to provide some minimum of serious public affairs programming. Proponents of deregulation assumed that the free market would bring forth an age of diversity in television programming. In fact, there is a lot more news on television now than ever before. In a sense, there is also greater diversity. The last few years have seen a proliferation of new forms of “reality-based programming.” If we set aside live programming and the Sunday interview shows, there were basically only two forms of public affairs television in the 1960s: the evening news and the documentary.

In the ’70s new forms appeared: the news magazine, represented first by 60 Minutes, and local news in its modern, fast-paced “happy talk” form. Each breached the barrier between news and entertainment in important ways. The decade also saw the consolidation of morning news as a strongly entertainment-oriented form of programming. NBC’s Today show had pioneered such a form in the 1950s. In the ’70s, ABC joined the field with Good Morning America, produced by the entertainment division, and CBS abandoned hard news in the morning to try and imitate Today.

With the new “tabloids” these scruples are mostly out the window. Their appeal is to the emotions, with no apologies; their interest in public affairs is not quite nil but very close (issues with sufficient emotional content, like crime and AIDS, can still bring it out). They have had great success with this model, and the rest of television news is sure to be sorely tempted to compete with them.

For those interested in delusion, and how it traps many people inside a constellation of fear plus hatred, the mass media is often reporting on acts of violence, mayhem and chaos. Gun violence plays a huge part in the 'news' that plays across the TV screen every night. Reporting is don on who got killed by which violent person, but there is never any in depth root cause analysis or problem solving.

Why is the rate of gun violence highest in the USA and rising even further? More than likely, you will not see or hear any of these things on the mass media, which is all about creating fear, panic and dread in people, while keeping them ignorant and caught in the Dunning-Kruger Syndrome.

Symptoms of living in fear include depression, anxiety, believing in conspiracy theories, hating others that are 'evil', etc. The result of living in fear is Duality Consciousness. 

If someone points the separation or illusion out, that person will deny it, and that person will be ABSOLUTELY SURE that this person is totally wrong, GUARANTEED, with no doubt.

There are few or no movies that portray unconditional love, spiritual development, consciousness and/or morals/ethics. There are few or no movies or TV shows providing information about the huge crises facing humanity and the 45 plus negative tipping points. 

What does this denial of reality look like in the mass media and movies, specifically?


Underneath all of the 'programming' going on, there is also something else going on, which is either consciousness growth and expansion, or the opposite. Keeping people stuck in tiny little boxes is the job of 'programming' done by the mass media. 

The 'real' news is that there is a birth happening, of consciousness, but this is completely ignored, denied, suppressed and taboo on the thousands of channels of mass media, infotainment pro corporate propaganda. How does a person recognize someone who is stuck in low consciousness, and mass media programming?

When huge corporations can do no wrong, even if they control the entire government, what does that create?


There are huge negative consequences to staying unconscious and asleep, while projecting fears and hatred.

Ben Affleck admits that Hollywood is full of CIA agents.

Of course he would be familiar with the CIA's Entertainment Liaison Office which works hand in hand with film studios to oversee production of major blockbuster movies, which shapes public beliefs, perception and reality.

Who needs censorship, when there is something that is much better which influences people in hidden unseen ways, so that they have no resistance to it and gobble it all up?

In the 1940s, Allan Dulles’ newly created CIA fostered a close relationship with Hollywood. It was a covert work in progress, and it wasn’t until the days of Bill Clinton, that the Hollywood studios got their own CIA mentor liaison, veteran officer Chase Brandon, who headed the newly established Entertainment Liaison Office. It was Brandon’s job to sanitize the CIA’s image for the American and international audiences, to push the agency narratives dependent on the political climate of the time. According to Brandon himself, “It took us a long time to support projects that portray us [CIA] in the light we want to be seen in,” admitting to the CIA’s influence over Hollywood.

The CIA has script writers who write up movie scripts, that are then sent to Hollywood, to be made into movies. US taxpayers fund this propaganda movie making operation. Those movies are then aired on mass media TV. Of course the mass media is also controlled by the CIA, so that makes for a neat little horizontal and vertical monopoly, hidden in plain sight.


In the end, truth becomes the 'enemy' and his hated or feared.

A new Hollywood blockbuster, Zero Dark Thirty, offers a sensationalized version of how the CIA took down al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The Central Intelligence Agency awarded film producers with top-secret information to help with their movie. Retired Colonel Morris Davis weighs in with how Hollywood is allowed access that other Americans are forbidden from finding out.
Of course, the entire movie is total propaganda, because the CIA created, paid and sponsored Osama Bin Laden as a CIA agent originally. He died many years before his double was 'taken out' by a Seal Team, and then dumped in the ocean, which conveniently eliminates any evidence, as explained in the video before this one by another CIA agent.  

The movie promotes the use of torture and the myth that torture works somehow, despite it being documented to NOT work, as Colonel Morris Davis says in this video. 

This movie is a good example of how the CIA uses movies to shape beliefs, opinions and ways of thinking. This propagandizing of movies then translates into 'voting' for candidates who support these positions, which then translates into supporting CIA torture operations, drone bombings, Guantanamo Bay, and other secret CIA operations.

A FASCIST GOVERNMENT PROMOTES THE USE OF TORTURE AND BELIEVES THAT TORTURE ACTUALLY WORKS, WHEN IT DOESN'T 

The job of the mass media is to brainwash people into believing things that are not true, such as the conspiracy theory that torture works to get the 'truth' out of people. Many movies, TV shows and news reports are constantly harping on this theme, that somehow torture works. What kind of government uses torture? A fascist government, like Hitler, Saudi Arabia, or other dictatorship. 

Trump and his entire cabinet believes in the use of torture. 

Today, Trump and his CIA director both approve of and are supportive of torture, including 'much worse' than that done under President Bush.

It is always dangerous to allow a small secret group of ultra rich billionaires and heads of huge globalist corporations to dictate what people should think and believe. Trump is now the leader of the infotainment brigade, where he instructs the 'loyal' followers what to believe. Since 90 percent or more of what he says consists of lies, deception or misinformation, people who believe what Trump says are very poorly informed and suffer from Dunning Kruger Syndrome.

To allow a small group of highly trained secret mind control agents to create propaganda for movies, news and TV shows is something that one would only expect in a Communist single party controlled country like Soviet Russia, not the United States.

REPUBLICANS ARE STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE WITH TRUMP

Option #1: If they stay with Trump through thick and thin no matter what he does, being blindly loyal and forgiving, and then Mueller presents concrete evidence implicating this president in collusion or obstruction, they are going to be in big time trouble. At that point, if they remain loyal to Trump and ignore or totally dismiss Mueller’s findings, if they refuse to take part in any impeachment proceedings, they will be toast in the next elections. They will go down with their Dear Leader.

Option #2: on the other hand they could decide that they are simply not going to take any chance of going down with him by beginning to cooperate with Mueller and the Democrats. The danger in doing that is that Mueller may lack solid, incriminating evidence against Trump. If that’s the case then, if he presents nothing of substance, they will have to face this president’s zealous supporters who will, in subsequent elections, enlist other Republicans to primary these Republican “traitors” all over the country.

Neither of these options would appear to be good for Republicans. Then what must they do? There may be another way to get out of this dangerous situation. It has its risks, but it could work and it may be their only way out. Suppose that certain trusted Republicans set up some sort of secretive meetings with the Mueller team to see what kind of evidence they have, if any, that would implicate Trump.

What the mass media does not talk about and it is taboo to mention this subject even at parties, is the concept of assassinating foreign leaders, and then installing dictatorships in multiple countries, via the CIA and super secret programs that are entirely fascism based.
