As Dr. Busby points out, Sellafield released massive amounts of plutonium as part of their daily operations. Any nuclear fuel processing or recycling plant releases more radiation each year than the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster. Sellafield was studied in depth to see what effect that these 'legal' radiation releases had on people and animals, via tooth and lung autopsy studies.

Radioactive pollution from the Sellafield nuclear plant in Cumbria has led to children’s teeth across Britain being contaminated with plutonium.

The Government has admitted for the first time that Sellafield ‘is a source of plutonium contamination’ across the country. Public Health Minister Melanie Johnson has revealed that a study funded by the Department of Health discovered that the closer a child lived to Sellafield, the higher the levels of plutonium found in their teeth.

Johnson said: ‘Analysis indicated that concentrations of plutonium… decreased with increasing distance from the west Cumbrian coast and its Sellafield nuclear fuel reprocessing plant – suggesting this plant is a source of plutonium contamination in the wider population.’

Johnson claimed the levels of plutonium are so minute that there is no health risk to the public. But this is disputed by scientists, MPs and environmental campaigners who have called for an immediate inquiry into how one of the world’s most dangerous materials has been allowed to continue to contaminate children’s teeth. There have long been claims of clusters of childhood leukaemia around Sellafield.

In the late 1990s researchers collected more than 3,000 molars extracted from young teenagers across the country during dental treatment and analysed them. To their surprise they found traces of plutonium in all the teeth including those from children in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Alarmingly, they discovered that those living closer to Sellafield had more than twice the amount of those living 140 miles away.

How dangerous is plutonium? 

PLUTONIUM IS FILTERED OUT OF AIR BY THE LUNGS AND CONCENTRATES IN LYMPH NODES

Lungs are no different than the air radiation monitors that suck in air and then deposit radioactive particles on a piece of filter paper. All nuclear facilities release radioactive gases and particles. Human lungs trap and absorb these gases and hot radioactive particles. It is just a question of how MUCH radioactive stuff is absorbed and concentrates in the body, not if it is happening. 



"Autopsies have confirmed that a proportional relationship exists between the amount of plutonium lodged in the tracheobronchial lymph nodes and how far the deceased lived from the facility [2]. Further testifying to the extent of environmental contamination, plutonium has been detected in the feces of sheep grazing as far as 100 km from Sellafield and within the teeth of children living up to 200 km away.

PLUTONIUM POSES AN INHALATION HAZARD; HOW IT INITIATES LEUKEMIA VIA CONCENTRATION IN LYMPH NODES


The plutonium escaping the plant primarily poses an inhalation hazard. Once deposited in the lungs, the insoluble particles of plutonium are available for scavenging by white blood cells which then ferry the pollutants to the tracheobronchial lymph nodes. 

It is important to note that the combined mass of these tiny bodies of tissue is approximately 15 grams. (Inhaled particles of DU are likewise scavenged from the lungs and transported to the tracheobronchial lymph nodes.) In a contaminated individual, these lymph nodes can contain plutonium in concentrations between 100 to 10,000 times higher than in any other tissues of the body [3]. 

Due to alpha emissions from the intensely radioactive plutonium, it can be assumed that a frighteningly high dosage of radiation is being deposited in these tiny tissue masses. As a consequence, there is an elevated risk for leukemia, induced by mutations to stem cells present within the nodes. As noted by Dr. Chris Busby: “Given that this organ [the tracheobronchial lymph nodes] has been identified as a source of lymphoma and leukemia in animals, this sounds very like the cause of the Sellafield leukemia cluster” [4].

"We found increasing evi- dence of chronic airway obstruction (FEV1/ FVC%, PEF, MEF25, MEF50, MEF75, and small airway hyperreactivity) and restriction (FVC, restrictive airway defect) with increasing quintiles of soil 137Cs in the NCC children. Restrictive ventilatory impairment in children could be caused by decreased pulmonary surfactant, reduced lung growth for age, chronic obstruction, or fibrotic changes. Changes in the fatty acid composition of pulmonary surfactant after chronic radiation exposure have been reported (Kolpakov 1999; Parkhomenko et al. 2008). Such changes in pulmonary surfactant could lead to restrictive ventilatory impairment. Survivors of child- hood cancer who received radiation therapy have been reported to develop significant pulmonary problems, including lung fibro- sis (Abid et al. 2001; Mertens et al. 2002). Radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis will typically produce restrictive ventilatory impair- ment. Thus, the 2.60 times greater likelihood of restrictive ventilatory impairment observed in this study is plausible in light of the current medical liiterature."

SUMMARY

Knowing that plutonium nano hot particles traveled all around the world from Fukushima, and knowing that the lungs concentrate plutonium in the Lung Tracheobronchial Lymph Nodes, what prediction would you make about the future consequences of releasing between 600 to 6000 pounds of plutonium into the air?

Nuclear experts say plutonium is too heavy and never traveled far from Fukushima, but that turns out to be just another deception practiced by pro nuclear apologists. Some experts even go so far as to say all of the plutonium released by Fukushima 'disappeared', via some magical genie waving his wand.

The problem is that plutonium does not magically disappear via some genie or fairy making magic. Plutonium follows laws, just like all of the other poisons and chemicals released globally. 

Wouldn't you agree that one impact would be a dramatic rise in the numbers of leukemia cases? Plutonium causes many other health issues and things like solid cancers as well, as dog studies proved. The outcome will be a negative one, that is for sure. What could be done? As a first step, medical autopsies could be done on a random set of leukemia patients who expired and test their Lung Tracheobronchial Lymph Nodes for plutonium, uranium or other radioactive elements. 

No one is doing that now, so the physical fallout in terms of negative health effects may not be known for a long time.
