Just as drugs are effective in pulling radioactive heavy metal poisons out of the body, there are also natural remedies that do the same thing, without the potential high cost, negative side effects and invasive procedures. Chelation therapy is a medical procedure that involves the administration of chelating agents to remove heavy metals from the body. Chelation therapy has a long history of use in clinical toxicology[1] and remains in use for some very specific medical treatments, although it is administered under very careful medical supervision due to various inherent risks.[2] Chelation therapy must be administered with care as it has a number of possible side effects, including death.[3] In response to increasing use of chelation therapy as alternative medicine and in circumstances in which the therapy should not be used in conventional medicine, various health organizations have confirmed that medical evidence does not support the effectiveness of chelation therapy for any purpose other than the treatment of heavy metal poisoning.[3]

HISTORY OF CHELATION THERAPY

Farben, first synthesized ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA).[13]Munz was looking for a replacement for citric acid as a water softener.[13] Chelation therapy itself began during World War II when chemists at the University of Oxford searched for an antidote for lewisite, an arsenic-based chemical weapon.[13] The chemists learned that EDTA was particularly effective in treating lead poisoning.[13]

Following World War II, chelation therapy was used to treat workers who had painted United States naval vessels with lead-based paints.[13] In the 1950s, Norman Clarke, Sr. was treating workers at a battery factory for lead poisoning when he noticed that some of his patients had improved angina pectoris following chelation therapy.[14] Clarke subsequently administered chelation therapy to patients with angina pectoris and other occlusive vascular disease and published his findings in The American Journal of the Medical Sciences in December 1956.[15]

He hypothesized that "EDTA could dissolve disease-causing plaques in the coronary systems of human beings."[16] In a series of 283 patients treated by Clarke et al. From 1956-1960, 87% showed improvement in their symptomatology.[15] Other early medical investigators made similar observations of EDTA's role in the treatment of cardiovascular disease (Bechtel, 1956; Bessman, 1957; Perry, 1961; Szekely, 1963; Wenig, 1958: and Wilder, 1962).

In 1973, a group of practicing physicians created the Academy of Medical Preventics (now the American College for Advancement in Medicine).[15] The academy trains and certifies physicians in the safe administration of chelation therapy.[17] Members of the academy continued to use EDTA therapy for the treatment of vascular disease and developed safer administration protocols.[15]

In the 1960s, BAL was modified into DMSA, a related dithiol with far fewer side effects.[18]DMSA quickly replaced both BAL and EDTA as the primary treatment for lead, arsenic and mercury poisoning in the United States. Esters of DMSA have been developed which are reportedly more effective; for example, the monoisoamyl ester (MiADMSA) is reportedly more effective than DMSA at clearing mercury and cadmium.[18]

Research in the former Soviet Union led to the introduction of DMPS, another dithiol, as a mercury-chelating agent. The Soviets also introduced ALA, which is transformed by the body into the dithiol dihydrolipoic acid, a mercury- and arsenic-chelating agent. DMPS has experimental status in the United States, while ALA is a common nutritional supplement.

Since the 1970s, iron chelation therapy has been used as an alternative to regular phlebotomy to treat excess iron stores in people with haemochromatosis.[19] Other chelating agents have been discovered. They all function by making several chemical bonds with metal ions, thus rendering them much less chemically reactive. The resulting complex is water-soluble, allowing it to enter the bloodstream and be excreted harmlessly.

Doesn't it make sense to try and figure out what the root cause of a cancer or dis-ease is (such as heavy metal poisoning), before throwing huge doses of toxic chemicals and deadly radiation doses at the body?

If toxic heavy metal radioactive elements are found as a cause and then removed via chelation, the inner Physician will do the rest of the healing work. No Chemo or radiation is needed, and administering those will only add to the harm being done by the original heavy metal poisons which caused the health problems in the first place. Chelation is a well accepted science that medical doctors use all of the time, but first, they have to figure out what kind of poison is inside the body, in order to get it out, via chelating drugs.

In 1988, a retrospective study of 2870 patients treated with EDTA chelation found that 77% of patients with ischemic heart disease showed "marked" improvement and 91% of patients with peripheral heart disease also showed "marked" improvement.[15] A 1993 retrospective study of 470 patients who underwent EDTA chelation noted that 80% had objective evidence of improvements of their symptoms.[36] .....The final results of TACT were published in November 2012. The authors concluded that disodium EDTA chelation "modestly" reduced the risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes among stable patients with a history of myocardial infarction.[40] The study also showed a "marked" reduction in cardiovascular events in diabetic patients treated with EDTA chelation.[41]An editorial published in the Journal of the American Medical Association said that "the study findings may provide novel hypotheses that merit further evaluation to help understand the pathophysiology of secondary prevention of vascular disease."[42]

FDA APPROVED MEDICATIONS FOR RADIATION ELIMINATION



Potassium iodide is the only FDA-approved medication available to treat contamination with radioactive iodine. There are FDA-approved products available that increase the rate of elimination of other radioactive elements. They include:

Calcium-DTPA and Zinc DTPA, Hameln Pharmaceuticals. Approved to treat known or suspected internal contamination with plutonium, americium, or curium to increase the rates of elimination.

Ex-Rad (or Ex-RAD), also known by the code name ON 01210.Na, is a drug developed by Onconova Therapeutics and the U.S. Department of Defense.[1][2] This newly developed compound is said to be a potent radiation protection agent. Chemically, it is the sodium salt of 4-carboxystyryl-4-chlorobenzylsulfone.[3]

Clinical trials


The results of two Phase I clinical studies in healthy human volunteers indicate that subcutaneously injected Ex-Rad is safe and well tolerated, with "no evidence of systemic side effects".[4] A study in mice demonstrated the efficacy of Ex-Rad by increasing the survival rate of mice exposed to typically lethal whole-body irradiation. The study tested oral and parenteraladministration of Ex-Rad for both pre- and post-exposure radiomitigation.[1]

Research on Ex-Rad has involved collaboration with the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI), the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology atGeorgetown University, Long Island University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy, and the Department of Oncological Sciences at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.[1]

Mechanism of action


Onconova suggests that Ex-Rad protects cells exposed to radiation against DNA damage, and that the drug's mechanism of action does not involve scavenging free radicals or arresting the cell cycle. Instead, they claim it employs a "novel mechanism" involving "intracellular signaling, damage sensing, and DNA repair pathways".[4] Ex-RAD is a chlorobenzylsulfone derivative that works after free radicals have damaged DNA. Onconova CEO Ramesh Kumar believes this is a better approach than trying to scavenge free radicals. “Free radicals are very short-lived, and so the window of opportunity to give a drug is very narrow,” he says. In cell and animal models, Ex-RAD protects hematopoietic and gastrointestinal tissues from radiation injury when given either before or after exposure.[5]


DRUGS FOR CHELATING OUT HEAVY METALS, PROVEN MEDICAL USES FOR CHELATION

Any urine testing for metals should be done before, and not after, the administration of any chelation therapy.[7] Healthy individuals have normal amounts of metal in their bodies which would be removed by chelation therapy, and urine testing after chelation therapy cannot reliably diagnose metal poisoning.[7] Urine testing done after chelation therapy has been associated with harm, including further testing or treatment based on those unreliable results.[7]

COMMON CHELATION AGENTS


There are a variety of common chelating agents with differing affinities for different metals, physical characteristics, and biological mechanism of action. For the most common forms of heavy metal intoxication – lead, arsenic, or mercury – a number of chelating agents are available. Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) has been recommended for the treatment of lead poisoning in children by poison control centers around the world.[8] 


Calcium-disodium EDTA and DMSA are only approved for the removal of lead by the Food and Drug Administration while DMPS and TTFD are not approved by the FDA. These drugs bind to heavy metals in the body and prevent them from binding to other agents. They are then excreted from the body. The chelating process also removes vital nutrients such as vitamins C and E, therefore these must be supplemented.[9]

The German Environmental Agency (Umweltbundesamt) listed DMSA and DMPS as the two most useful and safe chelating agents available.[10]

Pharmaceuticals that are generally administered orally or injected as an intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) drug are:

Some people get easy access to these drugs and are tested for radioactive contamination. Is your family getting these? Have you heard of anyone being tested for radioactive contamination INTERNALLY via a whole body radiation scanner, like they did with 300,000 children in Russia? What is the internal radioactive 'load' that your children are carrying?

As anyone can see from the above chart, it is critical to understand which heavy metal poison is the problem in the body. Just administering a chelating drug and hoping for the best does little or no good and may actually do harm. First investigate and explore plus test for the ROOT CAUSE. In other words, identify the heavy metal(s) that are causing the health issue FIRST, and then the proper chelation therapy is appropriate, whether that is a drug or a natural alternative.

CAUTION AROUND USE OF DRUG BASED CHELATION THERAPY, INCLUDING EDTA

When used properly in response to a diagnosis of harm from metal toxicity, negative side effects of chelation therapy include dehydration, low blood calcium, harm to kidneys, increased enzymes as would be detected in liver function tests, allergic reactions, and lowered levels of dietary elements.[12] When administered inappropriately, chelation therapy brings risk of cancer, neurodevelopmental disorder from toxicity, and death.[12]

Via HoTaters August 22, 2016 EDTA is much more risky and potentially hard on the body than holistic methods, or so my functional medicine docs have told me. Citrus pectin, clays, zeolite, mobilizers of heavy metals followed by binders can accomplish the same.

EDTA given carefully and monitored to prevent re-uptake or flooding of internal organs with excessive levels of toxins is OK. Must be done by a very skilled practitioner. I was advised against it when I likely had mercury poisoning due to Lyme disease, having mercury amalgams, other toxic exposures.

The EDTA (if memory serves) was recommended to be given slowly to prevent kidney, liver, or other organ damage. That's what I remember being told when I embarked on my first chelation and having my mercury amalgams removed.

EDTA and the other one (name slips my mind right now) can be very effective if carefully administered by a competent physcian, and the patient is monitored to prevent adverse outcomes.

Abstract
As a complement of standard radioprotective measures, apple-pectin preparations are given, especially in the Ukraine, to reduce the 137Cs uptake in the organism of children. The question has been raised: is oral pectin also useful when children receive radiologically clean food, or does this polysaccharide only act in binding 137Cs in the gut, blocking its intestinal absorption? In this case, pectin would be useless if radiologically clean food could be given. The study was a randomised, double blind placebo-controlled trial comparing the efficacy of a dry and milled apple-extract containing 15-16% pectin with a similar placebo-powder, in 64 children originating from the same group of contaminated villages of the Gomel oblast. The average 137Cs load was of about 30 Bq/kg bodyweight (BW). The trial was conducted during the simultaneous one-month stay in the sanatorium Silver Spring. In this clean radiological environment only radiologically "clean" food is given to the children. The average reduction of the 137Cs levels in children receiving oral pectin powder was 62.6%, the reduction with "clean" food and placebo was 13.9%…."
