LMFBR - Monju Japan Liquid Metal Sodium Fast Breeder Reactor Problems - Too Expensive, And Too Dangerous According To Arnie Gunderson - Why Would Anyone Buy A Reactor, Car Or Home That Will Start Fires, Burn And/Or Explode If Anything Leaks Out Of It At All, Ever?

LMFBR - Monju Japan Liquid Metal Sodium Fast Breeder Reactor Problems - Too Expensive, And Too Dangerous According To Arnie Gunderson - Why Would Anyone Buy A Reactor, Car Or Home That Will Start Fires, Burn And/Or Explode If Anything Leaks Out Of It At All, Ever?

WOULD ANYONE BUY A HOME, CAR OR AIRPLANE THAT WOULD EXPLODE AND/OR CATCH ON FIRE IF IT LEAKED?

Imagine buying a car that had liquid sodium for cooling the engine. If you got a leak in the cooling system, the car would catch on fire and/or explode. Why would anyone design a system that caught on fire or explode if it leaked? Imagine buying a home with a liquid sodium cooling system. If this cooling system leaked, your house would catch on fire and burn down.

Leaks happen. Leaks happen all the time in all mechanical systems. It sounds insane to try and cool something with liquid sodium, doesn't it? It is bad enough to have your hourse or car catch on fire and injure or kill your whole family, but when a nuclear plant catches on fire and/or explodes, that is a whole different matter. And as we see from NUMEROUS examples, liquid sodium cooled reactors have numerous problems, besides catching on fire spontaneously, whenever they leak.

These nuclear experts also make the point that liquid sodium reactors are like expensive race horses. Race horse are much more expensive than a normal horse both to buy and to maintain, for many reasons.

Fast breeder reactors can and do cost more to decommission than they cost to build, and they are already twice the price of any other form of power to start with, before decommissioning. Why would anyone in their right mind pay 400% more for a very toxic, dangerous and radioactive form of energy, that has never proven itself successfully in a commercial setting?

Left Connect "After 60 years, despite massive subsidies, the nuclear industry is dying of its own accord. Why? Because it’s too expensive, too dangerous and dirty, and takes too long to deploy. Reactors are closing across the country, and major corporations have declared bankruptcy.

Nuclear power simply cannot compete against safer, cleaner, and cheaper renewable energy. Nuclear power is also expensive. Nuclear’s subsidies have been buried in hundreds of spending bills, it’s costs externalized to the environment and future generations, and its bills literally unpaid, defaulted on or passed to taxpayers. Conservative estimates suggest that the nuclear industry has received more than $85 billion in subsidies. A centrist estimate might double that."

NUCLEAR POWER IS NOT A VIABLE SOLUTION OR PART OF THE NEW GREEN DEAL

Nuclear Power Is Not a Viable Solution for Green New Deal
The Green New Deal resolution is a bold and necessary path forward to tackle the climate crisis. To be successful, it must leave nuclear power behind.

As momentum around the Green New Deal turns into concrete proposals, we must recognize why nuclear power is a discredited and dishonest distraction, not a solution.
With just a decade left to stop the worst effects of climate change, we must dramatically transform how we produce, use and pay for energy. And as momentum around the Green New Deal turns into concrete proposals, we must recognize why nuclear power is a discredited and dishonest distraction, not a solution.

To reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 40 to 60 percent by 2030, and down to zero by 2050, we need cost-effective, proven energy generation technology that can be scaled up to meet these benchmarks. Nuclear power does not and will not ever meet these criteria.

After 60 years, despite massive subsidies, the nuclear industry is dying of its own accord. Why? Because it’s too expensive, too dangerous and dirty, and takes too long to deploy. Reactors are closing across the country, and major corporations have declared bankruptcy.

NUCLEAR EXPERT PROVIDES TESTIMONY ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE NEXT GENERATION NUCLEAR REACTORS ARE

David Lochbaum and Arnie Gundersen discuss the LMFBR advantages and drawbacks as a nuclear technology. Mr. Gundersen discusses the worldwide distribution of radioactive emissions from the Fukushima accidents, the BEIR-7 Report conclusions, and the fact that there is "no place to hide" following the radiation distribution, but that additional releases will likely be lessened. He also explains that the source of the explosions is still somewhat of an open issue."

The Monju Nuclear Power Plant is a liquid metal sodium cooled fast breeder reactor. It is designed to use radioactive plutonium for fuel, one of the most deadly substances on the planet. How dangerous is plutonium? Click on the following links to get some idea of how toxic and deadly this substance is...

Fast breeder reactors have numerous problems. When you expose liquid melted sodium inside of a nuclear reactor building to either water or air, it catches on fire. Mixing a liquid sodium fire with highly toxic and radioactive plutonium does not sound like a good idea, wouldn't you agree? David makes the point that it is fairly easy to find any leaks in a liquid sodium reactor because they catch on fire when there is a leak of any kind.

THE GLOBAL DECLINE OF NUCLEAR POWER IS HAPPENING FOR MANY REASONS, RENEWABLE ENERGY GROWTH NOW OUTPACES NUCLEAR

Why would a nation expose itself to bankruptcy and huge financial burdens when clean, green, cheaper and carbon free solutions exist, that also create tons of local jobs that cannot be exported?

Amory Lovins - Global Decline Of Nuclear Energy - Renewable Energy Production Now Outpaces Nuclear

CHEAPER, CLEANER, RENEWABLE ENERGY OPTIONS EXIST

Since a uranium powered, water cooled nuclear power plant is already more expensive than clean, green, carbon free renewable energy, why would any nation go in the liquid sodium cooled nuclear power plant direction at all, when cheaper, safer, and cleaner options exist today?

Renewable Energy Usage And Costs Compared To Nuclear And Coal; via @AGreenRoad

Carbon Free Geothermal Energy Could Supply ALL Power Needs Of Any Nation

Every nation on Earth can rely on carbon free renewable energy systems for 100% of their power needs. What is really lacking is not the renewable energy sources, it is the will, the vision and the lack of knowledge.

CARBON, NUCLEAR AND CHEMICAL MONOPOLIES ARE TRYING TO SQUASH RENEWABLE ENERGY PROVIDERS

Powerful monopolies that have built up a head of steam, such as coal, oil, nuclear and gas. They have blocked or derailed all attempts at a national or international movement towards sustainable, zero carbon fuel strategies. The answers and solutions are all there, for those willing to stay open and see them.

Stanford Professor Mark Jacobson Proposes 100% Carbon Free Renewable Energy System

LIST OF COUNTRIES WITH NO NUCLEAR PLANTS IS GROWING

Despite the monopoly strangle hold on energy, the whole world seems to have made an economic decision to move away from non sustainable, expensive, dirty, toxic and radioactive nuclear energy as a solution for it's energy needs. According to Amory Lovins, nuclear energy as a power source is in a steep decline and quite possibly a complete terminal collapse.

The list of nations that have decided to turn off all nuclear plants and those nations with no nuclear power plants is GROWING, not shrinking. That says a lot about the nuclear industry, it's dangers, and the choices that informed citizens are making via their political leaders.

List Of Countries/Nations With NO Nuclear Power Plants is Growing

Going back to finish with Fukushima and the video above, according to Arnie Gunderson in order for plutonium to go into fission and cause a nuclear explosion, the plutonium has to be surrounded by water, held in a sphere shape, and weigh at least five pounds. Those three things were not present in reactor #3 at Fukushima.

WHAT HAPPENED AT FUKUSHIMA DAICHI AFTER 3/11?

According to Arnie, Fukushima #3 exploded in a criticality, resulting in a loss of huge amounts of plutonium hot particles to the air and spreading plutonium/uranium MOX fuel for miles around the plant, including into the ocean.

In other words, the whole world got really lucky with Fukushima, because if plutonium had fissioned inside #3, the whole reactor and spent fuel complex would have gone up in a gigantic nuclear fireball explosion, spreading all of the thousands of tons of nuclear material that is located at Fukushima all around the world, all in an instant.

Arnie also explained that when a nuclear plant such as Fukushima or Chernobyl melts down, it releases an enormous amount of Xenon and Krypton 'noble' gases.

Everyone In USA And Around The World Exposed to Massive Amounts of Radioactive Xenon Gas

Radioactive Xenon Gas; Dangerous And Lung Cancer Causing Isotope

EVERYONE AROUND THE WORLD BREATHED IN FUKUSHIMA RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS AND/OR HOT PARTICLES

A cloud of those radioactive gases went over Tokyo and the rest of Japan, as well as all around the world. Everyone breathed in those noble radioactive cancer causing gases and hot particles along with them.

Krypton 85 Dangers, Cancer Causing Health Effects, Risks, And Hazards

These radioactive gases emit gamma rays, and Xenon decays into solid Cesium. Hot particles were also released and people inhaled those hot particles. In April of 2011 for example, people in Seattle were breathing in 5 hot particles per day.

Hot Particles (Fuel Fleas) From Fukushima Continue To Circulate Globally

Fukushima Nano Bucky Balls Weaponized With Uranium, Plutonium, And Cesium

At this point, Arnie tellis us that there is no place to run or hide. The cesium, strontium, Xenon and all of the other radioactive elements are pretty much evenly distributed all across the Northern Hemisphere, so everyone is getting a dose of all of the radioactive poison that came out of Fukushima. But we don't have to put up with this anymore. There are alternative, clean, green, zero carbon fuel sources, in unlimited amounts.

GLOBAL OVERVIEW, DETAILING EACH COUNTRY FAST BREEDER REACTOR PROGRAM

In a global overview and to summarize, fast breeder or liquid sodium cooled reactors have been a failure in all countries where they have been attempted.

Very rich nations have spent HUGE sums of money trying to make them work for many, many years, using the brightest minds, and mountains of money. Rich nations gave up on the whole idea, because of all of the problems and failures, plus experiencing things like the Monju fire. If a rich nation like the US or Japan cannot find a cost beneficial, positive return economic reason to keep a liquid metal reactor going and make it work financially, what hope is there of a 3rd world country doing it?

To get more specifics about what each country did, and which liquid metal breeder reactor shut down on what date, click on the following link.

A Global Overview - How And Why Fast Breeder Reactors Never Lived Up To The Hype Or The Promises

Bottom line, nuclear power and nuclear weapons are not the long term answer, no matter what form they take. Nuclear power is too dangerous, too radioactive, too expensive, and results in non sustainable things happening around local jobs markets, politics, the environment, human health, animal health and more.

If you are not convinced about this yet, dive into the links below and read about what actually happened after local areas tried to successfully make nuclear happen.
