But to accomplish this, they have to prevent US citizens from passing common sense gun safety legislation, which most US citizens favor. GuMcClatchy News reported last month that the FBI is investigating Alexander Torshin, a Russian lawyer with connections to both Vladimir Putin and the NRA. The investigation allegedly seeks to determine whether any of the $55 million dollars spent by the NRA to help elect Republican officials (around $30 million on the Trump campaign alone) came from Russian donors. The use of foreign money to help fund a federal election is illegal.
While we do not yet know the amount of donations that Torshin, a life NRA member, made or brokered for the NRA, the organization spent double the amount on the 2016 elections than they spent on 2012 campaigns, donating triple what they donated to Mitt Romney to the Trump campaign. The true total may be as large as $70 million, since campaign groups are not required to disclose donations in certain operational facets, such as get-out-the-vote efforts.

According to global statistics, this NRA gun safety task force is a doing a horrible job.
According to an interview with Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC The Last Word, Asa Hutchinson is a former Congressman who had a 100% rating from the NRA. He was 'hired' by the NRA as a consultant to head this 'school safety' taskforce. The taskforce was started by the NRA, funded by the NRA and all members of the taskforce were selected by Asa personally. No one could volunteer to be part of this taskforce.
All of these taskforce members are also currently paid by the NRA. All of them have private, for profit law enforcement and security backgrounds, plus connections to companies that would profit handsomely, if their taskforce recommendations were to be put in place nationwide.
Asa handpicked all members who are part the taskforce, but did not include any teachers who spent a day in the classroom. Asa did not pick any school administrators. Asa did not pick any parents of children who were killed in school violence incidents or mass murders. Only security and law enforcement personnel are paid members of this task force. The members of the taskforce deal with school security exclusively; nothing else.
RBT Solutions has five members working for them and would make a lot of money if the recommendations were carried out. 6 members of the same taskforce work for another firm, which could also profit from these same recommendations that they voted for.
Asa and the other taskforce members were PAID very handsomely by the NRA, but they are refusing to disclose what they earned from the NRA, and they are also not disclosing what they would make in terms of profits as a result of recommendations presented in press releases from this supposedly 'independent' taskforce.
The taskforce makes no recommendations for keeping kids safe around political gatherings, such as Rep. Giffords, where a child was also a victim. This taskforce makes no recommendation for kids in a theatre getting killed by a mass murderer with an assault weapon.
The NRA answer in all cases of mass murder of innocent children, seems to be to buy more WMD military weapons of war, which are kept 'legal' via buckets full of blood, and filled with money.

When the killer near Rep. Giffords stopped to reload, he was tackled and pulled to the ground. He had a 33 round magazine and shot all of these bullets off, before attempting to reload. He killed a child by the name of Christina with one of those weapons.
He made no attempt to buy illegal weapons, ammo or magazines. All of the magazines, ammo and weapon that he used was legal at the time he bought them.
Military weapons used only war are still legal to buy for any civilian crazy that wants to commit mass murder with a WMD military weapon with a huge 100 round ammo clip that can kill 50 people in a matter of minute or less.

Asa said passing laws about limiting guns to certain number of bullets, or certain types of weapons will NOT WORK. He said that criminals will get these weapons no matter what the law says. Really?
In Japan, strict gun laws keep the death toll from guns to about 10 people per year, compared to 30,000 people killed PER YEAR from guns here in the USA, where there are none of these Japanese gun laws which actually work.
The answers to the mass shootings of children in American schools are all there, and can easily be copied, but the NRA stands in the way of these solutions.
The NRA claims armed guards will stop school violence. Columbine had an armed guard. That guard did NOT STOP the teens carrying weapons of mass destruction. That guard made no difference to those mass murderers.
The Forida school mass shooter also faced a security system, a checkpoint and an armed sheriff. As CNN reports it, FOUR armed and trained sheriffs did nothing to stop this mass shooter armed with a military weapon. If four cops cannot stop one 'bad' guy with a gun, there goes the theory about security guards, teachers and volunteers at schools stopping mass shooters.
There goes the NRA claim that it takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun. In the Florida shooting the mass killer even got away, despite massive police response.
These weapons of mass destruction and warfare were sold legally to these mass killers. They did not use hunting rifles. They used weapons of war and they also can easily purchase 100 round ammo magazines for use with these WMD weapons of war, LEGALLY.

In the US, hunting humans is a 'blood sport' enjoyed by mass killers who can legally buy WMD military weapons with 100 round magazines that can easily be swapped out and fired. And of course, all of these human hunting WMD weapons are supported, enabled and legalized by the NRA and 30 gun manufacturers.
Even advanced training makes very little difference when it comes to weapons of WAR.

Wednesday’s mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that has left at least 17 kids dead is a good time to remember how hollow and vacuous many of our elected officials’ “thoughts and prayers” sentiments are. While the NRA and the Republican Party spend the next many hours discussing mental illness and how the real issue is the mental illness that they are completely unwilling to tackle regardless of how many people die, let’s remember that meaningful gun safety laws could be enacted right now. Those laws haven’t been created because the NRA owns the Republican Party. While it’s unclear what effect the corporate snubs will have on the NRA, they have given the nascent #BoycottNRA a string of rapid, prominent victories and exposed vulnerabilities in a gun rights lobby that had seemed untouchable before 17 people — most of them students — were gunned down last week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.
The NRA claims 5 million members and takes in tens of millions of dollars each year through supporters, which it uses to fight gun regulations in the name of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees Americans the right to bear arms.
The group has faced public anger before — after the massacre of schoolchildren at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012, for example. But it has always fought back against pushes for new gun laws, and efforts to significantly restrict firearms inevitably die out as public fury over the shootings ebbs.
But outrage over the Parkland shooting — sustained in part by politically active teenagers who survived the massacre — has shown no signs of fading. Police say a former student killed 17 people with a legally purchased semiautomatic rifle, one of at least 10 guns he owned.

If we challenge their tax exemption on their non social services activities, at the current corporate tax rate, the NRA would have to pay around $63M on activities that include lobbying and supporting advertising for the gun manufacturer and supplier industry.
12.5% of its $334M 2014 budget is spent on actual educational services, just $54.5 million on firearms education, safety, and marksmanship training that would actually qualify for exemption.
The NRA spent over $50M in donations to political candidates in 2016. $12M to #Trump $7M lifetime to #JohnMcCain.
They spent another $85M on other legislation, lobbying and marketing activities. The latter is actually a portfolio of magazines that profit $25M from advertising sold by gun manufacturers. None of these activities qualify for a tax exemption.
