What creates happiness in a nation full of people?

Isn't it odd that among those that travel a lot around the world, that the happiest people often seem to be those who are the poorest, who have just enough to eat and are housed? Yet, those who are the unhappiest and need the most to take from others are those that are the richest on the planet?

Wikipedia; The World Happiness Report is an annual publication of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. It contains articles, and rankings of national happiness based on respondent ratings of their own lives,[1] which the report also correlates with various life factors.[2] As of March 2020, Finland was ranked the happiest country in the world three times in a row.[3][4]

In July 2011, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 65/309 Happiness: Towards a Holistic Definition of Development[5] inviting member countries to measure the happiness of their people and to use the data to help guide public policy. On April 2, 2012, this was followed by the first UN High Level Meeting called Wellbeing and Happiness: Defining a New Economic Paradigm,[6] which was chaired by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Prime Minister Jigme Thinley of Bhutan, a nation that adopted gross national happiness instead of gross domestic product as their main development indicator.[7]

The first World Happiness Report was released on April 1, 2012 as a foundational text for the UN High Level Meeting: Well-being and Happiness: Defining a New Economic Paradigm,[8] drawing international attention.[9] The report outlined the state of world happiness, causes of happiness and misery, and policy implications highlighted by case studies. In 2013, the second World Happiness Report was issued, and since then has been issued on an annual basis with the exception of 2014.[10] The report primarily uses data from the Gallup World Poll. Each annual report is available to the public to download on the World Happiness Report website.[11]

We are all in search of happiness it seems. For me I prefer to look at it as the search for peace and joy in life as I find happiness can be too conditional and anytime we have to look for or chase something we are looking outside of us. Surely some of this is just semantics but for lack of a better word, happiness in my view is a state of being that comes from within and isn’t fickle.

CAN CHILDREN BE TAUGHT TO BE HAPPY AND BE EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT?

Trump is cutting the free lunch program for poor children, who may not get any other meal during the day, due to extreme poverty of their family. 

Will that create happiness or suffering and unhappiness? School lunches are an important part of nutrition, which is required to learn and have a normal, functioning brain.

What someone will notice in visiting most public schools in the USA, especially in areas that are poverty stricken,  is that the children seem to be unhappy.

The king recently banned plastic bags in the Kingdom, and banished all private logging companies. This may be the first nation on Earth to ban plastic bags. The policy of banning all private logging resulted in net forest growth where it was losing forest cover in previous years.

1999 - Buddhism is the dominant religion in this country, and they practice not harming any living thing. This is part of the National Gross Happiness measurement. Tradition is encouraged by giving free education to craftsmen and artists. Artistic creations are then sold to the tourists coming into the country. 

The economics of the country as based on water power and limited tourism. Tourists are charged $250 per day, and there is a limit on the number coming in.

Meanwhile, in the USA, poverty and homelessness is increasing, despite the US being the richest country on the planet. Why is it that Bhutan can house, feed, clothe and educate all of it's citizens and have a 100 percent renewable energy source, while the US cannot figure out how to do even a small fraction of this? 

How is the Federal Reserve any different from the guy in the basement above, printing money whenever he needs it? 

How is the Federal Reserve and the 1%, any different from the counterfeiters making up fake products in China, just to earn a living? How can the 1% justify getting rich on the suffering of child slaves, and indentured servants, plus US slaves making less than poverty wages? 

How is one bad, and the other 'good'?

Happiness is created by living in harmony with Nature and the planet, by using renewable zero carbon, zero nuclear energy sources, such as wind, water, solar and deep planet geothermal energy for large scale energy production. Are there any nations producing 100 percent of their power via these sources? 

Can it be done? 


The country sells water power generated electricity to India finance the country. Since the country is governed by a king, there are no political arguments. Since the king is primarily interested in the happiness of his subjects, there is no need to discuss whether it is better to go left or right in politics. Little money is wasted on any political party or on elections for a President, since the king is there for life. If you have a good, noble hearted and empathic King, this form of government can work out well, but most governments that install a single person with absolute power, don't work out so well.

The government of Bhutan has recently passed a law which the people of Bhutan came up with, saying that they can get rid of the king, but there is no effort to do that, since they are happy with their king.

Buddhists believe that life is illusion and TV is an illusion about an illusion. Hmm, maybe they have a point. There are some rare individuals in the US who are choosing to turn off their TV's but so far, this is rare.

As in the USA, happiness is a goal and a vision. But contrary to the USA, in Bhutan they focus on not just the material needs, but also the spiritual needs, the environment needs, and infrastructure needs, while learning from the 'mistakes' of other countries. They look at happiness in a holistic way, not just purely from a Gross Domestic Product point of view.

They place a high value on their wilderness. 70% of the country is covered by forest. Over 50% of their national income results from selling electricity from water power to India. 

The people of Bhutan are all housed, fed, clothed, educated, and provided with basic healthcare. This is more and better than even large civilized countries can say about themselves.

The Bhutan National Parliment exists, and has about 100 members representing the people. There are no political parties, a prime minister, and a group of ministers that are drafting a Constitution. In the future, the people will vote on ministers, but up to 2005, ministers were appointed, not elected. This system seemed to work, because the focus is on the needs of the people, not on the needs of corporations or the military. 

Less than 10% of the country is arable, and all food is grown by hand with very little help from machines. Over 90% of children go to school, and they all wear the national uniform to eliminate 'differences' that may lead to friction, fights, or bullying. The central part of the children's education focuses on harmony, peace, and how to get along with others (without violence). 

70% of the citizens have no electricity. TV is only on from 7PM to 11PM. Loyalty, spirituality, community, traditions, thrift as well as harmony are the primary focus, instead of competition, monetary gain, and getting 'more' than others. They look ahead to seven future generations when making a decision. Looking at ONLY short term profits is considered as a form of mental illness in this country. 

 Maybe the largest Democrat and Republican political parties in the US are designed just like the mass media; to divide and control people via artificial divisions that create feelings of fear, anger and hatred?

Maybe the whole political process in America needs to be tossed? The American winner takes all political system certainly does not work very well, with only a 7 percent average approval rate. Why do something over and over that does not work? Isn't that the definition of insanity? Isn't that kind of like banging your head over and over again into a cement wall? 

MONEY DOES NOT BUY HAPPINESS


Even though most of the people in this country only make 2 to 5 dollars a day, they are mostly happy, according to official surveys. 
This may tend to confirm the theory that money cannot buy happiness. Bhutan may also confirm that there is more than one road to the goal of happiness, and that the road does not even need to be paved, lighted, or even well traveled.

On the other hand, can Shangri La, Paradise on Earth, Utopia really exist on Earth? Some would say that Bhutan is Utopia, but not everyone agrees.

There seems to be a little trouble in Paradise...... Bottom line, there is no perfect system, but there are countries America can learn from, like Bhutan.. 

Money is not the end all and be all that everyone needs to aspire to get as much of as possible, while destroying the environment, communities and trampling over large numbers of people. Despite being the richest and most powerful nation on Earth, America has over 2.5 million homeless children. How does that work for a sustainable future?

In Bhutan, one of the poorest nations on Earth, everyone is housed, fed, clothed, educated and gets healthcare.

But in the richest country on Earth, the number of unfed children, hungry and homeless is growing every year.

Isn't there something wrong with this picture? 

OF COURSE, NO ONE IS PERFECT, SO THERE IS TROUBLE EVEN IN THIS PARADISE

The freedoms, democracy and rights of all US citizens are under severe threat and are hanging by a fragile thread, which can be broken at any time. Maybe it is time to rise up, resist and take action to take back our country from the racist, fascist 1 percent, billionaires and huge corporations that have taken us all hostage?

How does the US get out of being a fascist state, controlled by a few billionaires and huge corporate CEO's? 

First, people have to VOTE. 

Second, people have to vote only for candidates that refuse to take corporate or billionaire money, and who are not billionaires like Trump. Don't vote for the lesser evil, unless you want and enjoy more fascism.



Third, the people have to pass laws to reverse and/or prevent a fascist dictatorship by billionaires and corporations, while also saving the planet via the NEW GREEN DEAL.
