The suit filed in Los Angeles on Monday outlines individual experiences at eight different facilities, but immigration lawyers say the mistreatment is representative of systemic problems that affect tens of thousands of people. The complaint comes as the Trump administration escalates its efforts to make it harder for asylum seekers and migrants from certain countries to come to the US, detains undocumented migrants for longer periods of time and expands the use of private prison contracts in the immigration system.
Attorneys said the conditions at some US detention centers were so brutal that migrants who have fled torture and violence “are forced to abandon viable claims for immigration relief and accept deportation out of a desperate desire to escape the torture they are enduring in detention on US soil”.
“They cannot take it any more,” said Elissa Johnson, an attorney with the Southern Poverty Law Center, one of several not-for-profit organizations involved in the suit in Los Angeles. “That is not a choice that anyone should have to make,” she told reporters.
When the country of immigrants starts torturing immigrants who have a legal claim of asylum, and those same legal migrants are put in prison with the assumption that they are all criminals, down to the children and babies, that is psychotic and sociopathic..

2018 HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT ON TORTURE
The United States continued to move backward on human rights at home and abroad in the second year of President Donald Trump’s administration. With Trump’s Republican party controlling the legislative branch in 2018, his administration and Congress were able to pass laws, implement regulations, and carry out policies that violate or undermine human rights.
In March, the US Senate confirmed Gina Haspel as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). In 2002, Haspel ran a CIA detention center in Thailand where she oversaw torture, and in 2005 advocated for, and helped to destroy, videotaped evidence of CIA torture.
The US is assisting Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) run and secure detention facilities in northern Syria where the SDF were holding nearly 600 men from 47 countries accused of being Islamic State (ISIS) fighters or members. At time of writing, the US had also transferredat least eight detainees from SDF custody to Lebanon, seven to Macedonia, and other foreign nationals to Iraq. One dual US-Saudi citizen was held in US custody for over a year until October, when the US was finally pressured through litigation to release him. The US was also reportedly considering transferring hundreds more from SDF custody to Iraq, Tunisia, and other countries for detention. It was not clear what kind of process to safeguard against abuse the US was providing detainees transferred, but the transfers raised concerns that detainees may face torture or unfair trial, and not have an opportunity to challenge their transfers before they occur.

A physician who was called to visit a U.S. border facility in McAllen, Texas, last week after five infants held there were placed into neonatal intensive care due to a flu outbreak has reportedly compared conditions at the facilities to “torture.”
ABC News reported Tuesday citing details from a medical declaration by Dolly Lucio Sevier that minors at the McAllen facility were forced to endure “extreme cold temperatures, lights on 24 hours a day, no adequate access to medical care, basic sanitation, water, or adequate food.”
“The conditions within which they are held could be compared to torture facilities,” Lucio Sevier, who assessed nearly 40 minors at the facility – Customs and Border Protection’s largest detention site in the nation – wrote in the declaration, according to ABC.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo on Thursday hammered WikiLeaks, calling the organization a "non-state hostile intelligence service."
In his first major public appearance since taking the top intelligence post in the Trump administration, Pompeo took aim at WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden, who leaked confidential information about NSA surveillance to news outlets before seeking refuge in Russia.
"It's time to call out WikiLeaks for what it really is: A non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia,” he said.
Pompeo said disclosures by Assange and Snowden have done "great harm to our nation’s national security and they will continue to do so in the long term," adding that the revelations have hurt the U.S.'s relations with foreign partners.

A 2009 Senate Armed Services Committee review concluded that torture “damaged our ability to collect accurate intelligence that could save lives, strengthened the hand of our enemies, and compromised our moral authority.” That’s why the Senate voted in 2015 to turn the presidential ban on torture into official law. To his credit, Trump did water down his original support for torture, allowing Defense Secretary James Mattis — who opposes torture — to override him.
But if the Trump administration is now opposed to torture, why are they nominating the architects of America’s torture fiasco to key posts? Take Steven Bradbury, nominated to be general counsel for the Transportation Department. Bradbury is infamous for writing the legal memos authorizing CIA torture at the Bush Justice Department.
Bradbury’s confirmation was placed on hold by Senator Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq veteran who lost her legs in the war. “The actions you helped justify put our troops in harm’s way, put our diplomats deployed overseas in harm’s way, and you compromised our nation’s very values,” she said angrily at his confirmation hearing.
Or what about Donald Trump’s nominee to head the FBI, Christopher Wray? Wray was at the Justice Department when attorney John Yoo and others were drafting their torture memos. Wray knew about detainee abuse and did not, as head of the criminal division, bring charges against any of the Bush administration torturers — except for one low-level CIA contractor who beat a prisoner to death.
A third person connected to torture is Gina Haspel, who was appointed deputy director of the CIA. Haspel ran a “black site” prison in Thailand where suspects were waterboarded — and then helped destroy video of the interrogations.
The Senate Intelligence Committee meticulously documented the sordid U.S. record of torture under the Bush administration in a 6,770-page report. But the public hasn’t been able to read it — only the executive summary has been released.

The Trump administration is looking into bringing back torture, according to a draft order published by the The New York Times and the The Washington Post on Wednesday. The draft order would also open up the detention camp at Gitmo for new detainees, rescind an Obama-era directives confining interrogations to techniques in the Army Field Manual and giving the Red Cross access to all detainees held by the United States.
The draft order, in which words like “jihadist,” “terrorist,” and “nation” are crossed out and replaced with “radical Islamism” and “homeland” respectively, directs national security officials to “recommend to the president whether to reinitiate a program of interrogation of high-value alien terrorists to be operated outside the United States.”'

The CIA, the agency’s inspector general and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence have so far returned their copies. The FBI and the departments of Justice, State and Defense were also sent copies in 2014.
The report, the result of a yearslong investigation spearheaded by Senate Intelligence Committee Democrats under then-chair Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), details the CIA’s use of waterboarding, sleep deprivation and other so-called enhanced interrogation techniques that are considered torture by international standards.
Considered the most complete accounting of the Bush-era program, the so-called “torture report” found many of the CIA’s practices were overly brutal and possibly illegal.
Since its completion, the document has been the focal point of a fierce tug-of-war between committee Democrats and civil liberties advocates — who fear it will be buried forever — and congressional Republicans, who argue that it is overly critical of the CIA.

In Afghanistan, a "black site" that has emerged as the most brutal was “Detention Site Cobalt,” which was built outside Kabul for $200,000 in 2002, according to the Senate report. Described in the report as the "Salt Pit" and the CIA prison most like a "dungeon," it was dark inside 24 hours a day. Torture tactics employed by interrogators there hoping to "break" the site's prisoners included dousing suspects in water, leaving them in cold cells and blasting music to keep them up for days at a time. Forced rectal feedings also took place.

Huge prisons pay a huge tax bill, and creates many 'jobs', which is seen as a positive thing.
What are we accomplishing by locking up drug dealers, who then get drugs delivered to jail by their guards or by other convicts? Drugs are actually easier to get inside jails and prisons than they are outside of prisons, but the guards are the ones making the money off of it, and quite possibly the jail warden as well.

Combine a fondness for lying and add a love of torture, and what would you expect to happen in the future, if it is allowed to progress to full maturity.
WHAT HAPPENS TO CRIMINALS WHO ARE PUNISHED IN JAIL, BUT GIVEN NO EDUCATION, NO REINTEGRATION SKILLS?
What happens to criminals inside jail? Do they get 'better' somehow through punishment, neglect, abuse, being raped and isolated for years in solitary confinement? Or are we getting worse trained criminals after they get released, because they are sent to a specialized 'school' that concentrates all master criminals together into one place, where they have nothing else to do or look forward to, but to plan future crimes in better and more creative ways? Not providing education or any meaningful job skills to criminals and not giving them any skills in how to cope in the world ensures that they they will commit crimes once they are released. In other words, capital punishment does not work.
What about the 8th Amendment, which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment? Could prison be viewed as a cruel and unusual punishment, especially for people subjected to years of isolation cell time?

Those who disagree with laws banning taking drugs taken in certain ways, (marijuana or mushrooms grown in the backyard), but allowed in others (by prescription from profit motivated holy robed monks/doctors) must be punished, jailed, tortured and/or be put to death.

The Church's Inquisition was set to torture and kill those who disbelieved in the Bible. Not only that, they also tortured, stoned and/or burned those alive who believe in the Bible but disagreed with the Church's interpretations.
Heretics, unbelievers, political opponents, and anyone disagreeing with whatever the Church leaders said were all targets. Even other Christians were targets for burning alive, if they did not agree and 'convert' to the 'right' version of Christianity. Here is one documented historical example of this.....
When a nation imposes a state sponsored religion, as was the case in the 'good ol days', this is the consequence, because any other religion or denomination is seen as the 'enemy' and must be punished, or put to death. This dark consequence of state religion is why there is a separation between church and state in the United States, as it is written into the Constitution. Sadly, many Christians don't understand this basic and fundamental part of American history. Those who don't learn from history, are condemned to repeat it.

Evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr. on Tuesday defended the Trump administration amid criticism over conditions migrant children have faced in U.S. detention facilities.
Falwell lashed out at Russell Moore, a theologian and president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, for criticizing the administration following reports of detained migrant children held in unsanitary and inadequate conditions.
“The reports of the conditions for migrant children at the border should shock all of our consciences,” Moore said in a tweet Tuesday morning. “Those created in the image of God should be treated with dignity and compassion, especially those seeking refuge from violence back home. We can do better than this.”

Isolation in cells for years, strapping people into chairs that hold them immobile for long periods, using abusive light, temperature and noise levels are all cruel and unusual punishment.
